Jerry Wendell Courtney, beloved husband, father and grandfather was taken to heaven August 21, 2020. He would have been 82 October 20, 2020. He overcame COVID-19 through the great and mighty strength he had and much prayer, but was left with complications that ultimately caused aspiration. He never gave up.
Having been a professional boxer before his administrative career, he knew how to suppress pain. He was a champion in all he did and fought to the end in the same way he lived his life. He was always strong inside and out, a kind, loving gentleman, always making others happy with his great love for all people, his brilliant intellect, bright personality and great sense of humor. He never complained and was always strong and shining with love and a positive attitude. He was a king-giving, supportive, powerful and beautiful inside and out. He possessed the rare combination of wisdom and love, strength and gentleness.
He was a fighter and one who fought for good. He faithfully served the homeless with his daughter, Cascille, and grandson, Josiah, at the church Cascille planted and pastored where he was a member with his beloved wife, Linda Gail Cole Courtney. He had a true servant’s heart.
He was born leader and retired Senior Section Supervisor at ExxonMobil Chemical Plastics where he mentored many there and throughout his entire life. He had two children when young, Bill Courtney and Erin Hall. Then, when he was just 26 years old, he was blessed to meet and marry his soulmate and love of his life, the beautiful, intelligent, gifted and loving Linda Gail Cole Courtney. They were equal in strength and noble stature. This divine union lasted 50 years, until the Lord took her home. They gave birth to Cascille Dee Courtney and Jeri Nathali Courtney. Jerry lovingly adopted Linda’s daughter, Patricia Lynn. Linda and Jerry had one adored grandson together, Josiah Nathaniel Jerry, son of Cascille Dee. Cascille and Josiah were honored to be chosen by Jerry as his primary caregivers which they did with all of the love in their hearts for him which is immeasurable. Josiah adored his grandfather and was mentored by him. Linda and Jerry are now together eternally in paradise.
He is also joined by his parents, James Willie and Clara Dee and Linda’s parents Nathaniel and Cascille Cole who were beloved and like parents to Jerry.
He leaves his children, his only beloved grandchild with Linda, Josiah Nathaniel Jerry, and 10 other grandchildren including Patricia’s children Kristen, Kayla and Denny and many great grandchildren. Until we meet him again, we can only hope to have a fraction of the faith, strength and fortitude he had as he faithfully loved God and others to his very last breath.
He is hearing now from the father, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
We have all he selflessly imparted to us to help us complete this journey victoriously as he did. He will forever be in our hearts and spirits until he meets us when we go home…
Thank you, Jesus, for your gift of eternal life in heaven. We will see you there, Daddy.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Courtney personally but I did have the honor of meeting his daughter Cascille and grandson Josiah. Just knowing them I have witnessed the morals, strength and Love for God which he instilled in them both. The Lord commanded he live a Christian life and so he did with great valor and victory! His job here on earth is complete! Now he is at peace with the words “well done my good and faithful servant” ringing in his soul for eternity! I look forward to meeting this man at the gates and thanking him for his Example and wonderful legacy, which is his loving daughter and INSANELY Intelligent grandson!
To participate in a conversation with Linda and Jerry was almost like a guest appearance on Johnny Carson… So funny!
Linda and I were friends from 8th grade, in 1954, and I met Jerry when she brought him to Natchez, to meet me, in 1964. We had been friends ever since, watching Skipper, Nathali and Patricia growing up! When Linda got sick and ultimately died Jerry was left alone and Skipper stepped in!
Skipper and Josiah took better care of Jerry, from California, than most people take care of their loved ones from down the street.
I know because I was in constant contact with them and I knew was happening on a daily basis. I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful father and grandfather. I know that Jerry never lost his sense of humor until the very end and when I think of him I always chuckle!

Mr. Jerry was a strong and kind man. I had the opportunity to know him growing up with Cascille, Skipper as Mr. Jerry so lovingly called her. Over these many years I saw Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Linda grow in their faith and belief in God our Lord and Savior. I was so thankful to know Cascille‘s faith and ministry brought witness, love and servitude into their lives. She and Josiah have sacrificed so much to be with him and bring joy into his life. They were blessed to have him as a dad and grandfather. I was blessed to spend time with Mr. Jerry in his later years and he still had his strength and sense of humor about him. We can be assured he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Miss Linda in heaven. God bless you Cascille, Josiah and your family. Love Always Dana
Cascille and Josiah, I am so sorry for your loss. I know your dad and grandfather meant the world to you two and you were his world. His face would light up every time y’all visited at the home. Mr. Jerry was such a wonderful man and I will miss him also. May God bless you and Josiah with the sweet memories.
A devastating loss, “Mr. Jerry” was a special person, always positive, strong and fun to be around. I remember him teaching me how to water ski at the camp at False River and arm wrestle at the kitchen table. I know how difficult it is losing such a force in your life.

Anyone who dearly loves and cares for God’s furry creatures are special in my book. Mr. and Mrs. Courtney loved their pet animals and always were devoted to their care and happiness. Will Rogers once said that if dogs don’t go to heaven that he wants to go where they go. I personally believe that Mr. Courtney has joined Mrs. Courtney and their beloved little animals in heaven.

Our dear Mr. Jerry, over two years ago we had the pleasure of making your acquaintance at the nursing home while caring for our own father. During those two years we have come to know you and especially the pleasure of meeting your daughter Cascille and grandson Josiah. To watch those two stand by your side over the last two years has been amazing. We have been so fortunate to get to know you and your family. Your loyal faith and consistent prayers bought solace to those around you. We had many trials and tribulations, but your boundless faith encouraged all around you to keep the faith. You will now watch over all of us and rejoice with our maker. Camille and Josiah can move forward in their life knowing that they did all and more than was ever expected in honoring your faith and wishes. Living their life in faith and happiness should be the ultimate reward from our Lord and Savior. May Jesus bless you all, in His name Amen!!

Bro. Jerry Courtney, we met only a couple of times, but the connection and love between us was instant. You and I both have the Spirit of God in us and that was the instant connection.
Your daughter, Cascille and grandson, Josiah are a sweet blessing to me from God above as they are to all who met them. Because of the love you placed in them for the LORD, they follow in your greatest legacy, your love for Jesus Christ. Jesus is our best that’s yet to come. My heart hurts for your family, as I know the last several months have been more than challenging.
Your father was so sweet and loving, yet so very strong. His great strength was displayed mightily during his fight with Covid. And his love for others shined while serving others.
I’m thankful for having the opportunity to know him and work beside him. I carry fond memories of the times we got to send with him. He sure was witty and fun to be around. I will miss him greatly.
