Lena Shearer left her earthly home for her home in Glory; today - July 10th, 2025 at the age of 91.
Lena Lee Slaton was born on October 11th, 1933 to Thomas Davis and Allie Tingle Slaton in New Augusta, Mississippi. The family later relocated to Jackson, where she graduated from Mississippi School for the Deaf. It was also in Jackson where she met the love of her life, Doug Shearer. They married and had three children. Unfortunately, the union did not last. She later moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation.
It was said, “I’m pretty sure she was the best person I ever met.” Which sums her up perfectly. She was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings Alice Chandler, Tommy Slaton, Bobbie LeFors, as well as her two sons, Rick and Jerry Shearer.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Hope and husband, Ronnie; grandsons, Brian and Tyler Hope, Matt and Scott Shearer and Rick Jones. Great grandchildren include Scott Shearer II and Kenadi Jones.
I’d like to thank Oakwood Village, especially Debra Johnson (her supervisor) 😉 and Our House For Respite for the love and kindness shown to my mom.
To honor mom’s wishes, there will be no service. I invite you to celebrate her memory privately in your own way. She will be greatly missed.
