William Dewey Spiers Jr., a man of unwavering honesty, steadfast dependability, and formidable strength, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, joining his beloved wife, Deatrea Gayle Spiers, in heaven.
Bill was born in Baton Rouge on March 24, 1946, and resided in Maurepas, Louisiana. Bill was a dedicated, loving husband, father, and grandfather. His strength and perseverance shaped the lives of those who knew him. A dedicated and visionary businessman, he graduated from LSU in 1969 with a degree in accounting.
He was a business owner, a skilled carpenter, builder, and craftsman, creating homes that stood as testaments to his artistry. His greatest joy in life was his family.
He is survived by his four cherished children, Celeste Sorrells (David), Ashley Lyle (Jonathan), William D. Spiers III (Lauren), and Hallie Huber (Matthew). Bill was immensely proud of his eight grandchildren: Dr. Clayton Sorrells (Emily), Dr. Suzanne Sorrells, Sophie Lyle, Gavin Lyle, Liam Spiers, Peyton Spiers, Alex Huber, and Lucas Huber, celebrating each of their accomplishments with boundless enthusiasm.
A true renaissance man of good times, Bill’s passions were as diverse as they were infectious. As an avid sailor, he spent many days on the water at Pass Christian and Lake Pontchartrain. He found solace and joy in carpentry and sailing, relished a good cigar, and lived life to the rhythm of Jimmy Buffett. His legendary margaritas were a staple at any gathering, and he always made sure everyone around him was having fun.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Gayle Spiers, his parents William Dewy Spiers Sr., Vallie Duree Spiers, and his sisters, Stella Ann Benton and Mary Ellen Spiers. William Dewey Spiers Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy of hard work, love, and laughter will live on.
A private service will be held at a later date.
