William "Terry" Slade

January 21, 1951 — November 11, 2023

Monroe, LA

The Celebration of Life Service for William “Terry” Slade, 72, will be held on Friday, November 18, 2023 at 2 p.m. at

VFW Post 1809 Rodney J Hobbs, 1499 Highway 594, Monroe, LA with Bro. Joe WIley and Dionne Boozer Chamblee officiating,

under the direction of Church Funeral Services and Crematory.

After a hard fought battle with cancer, Terry passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2023 with his wife Sandy, faithfully at his side.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleonor Hale Slade, son, Bryan Abercrombie and great-grandson, Elliott Ladner(Poppy).

In 1971, Terry enlisted in the US Airforce and served as a Maintenance Analysis Specialist in Cree - as well as other duties while he was on active duty defending the country and freedoms he loved and considered it an honor to serve. By the close of his active duty in Thailand, Sargent Slade received both the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

There wasn’t anything that Terry couldn’t figure out, repair, work through or make shine in a special way. There was no “Quit” in Terry Slade. He has shared this tenacious spirit with his family, friends, customers and co-workers at every dealership he worked with, each business he has operated, with the MidSouth ArenaCross group that he was so proud of and especially his wife and kids. He treated every person as if they were the only person who mattered in the world - and you knew he meant it. This is also a great quality seen in all who had dealings with him in his daily life and especially his family.

In the early 1990’s, Terry met Sandra Broughton. He was delighted to make “Sandy” his Bride and the Queen of their castle.

Terry and Sandra were blessed with two sons of their own that they added to make a family total of eight. When the Slade family would get together over the years, the times would be full of food and fellowship and have given memories that will last for a lifetime.

Terry’s hobbies included food, horses, ArenaCross, his boys, and especially, his grandkids. Terry loved his community and never met a stranger. Terry's kids were the joy of his life - at least until his grandsons came into the picture. The way Terry showed his love was in his generous spirit. He never wanted anyone to leave hungry or in need. His fun stories and jovial countenance were with him to then end of this life on earth.

Today, Terry is rejoicing at the feet of Jesus and wants to see you there as well. Terry is survived by is Bride of 26 years, Sandra Broughton; daughter, and her husband, Susan and Quincy Uzzell, sons, Mark Abercrombie, Jeb, Jesse and Trent; grandchildren, Jeremy Slade Terry (Clara Allen), Whitney Ladner (Michael), Justin Mckinney , Anna Lynn Abercrombie, Liam Slade, Maverick Slade and Maddox Slade, great-grandson, Banks Mckinney; brothers, Herman (Bea), Donnie (Sonja), Mark (Christy). And a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that will also miss him dearly, including special friends, Johnny and Denise Wilhite and family.

We would like to say a very special Thank you to the VFW Post 1089 Rodney J Hobbs for graciously opening their doors for Terry's friends and family to come together.
