William Frederick "Freddie" Brown, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

Born in New Orleans, LA, he lived in Chalmette, LA  for over 30 years and later moved to Prairieville, LA  where he resided until his passing.

He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve for 6 years and later joined the Louisiana National Guard Reserve where he served for 22 years and retired as Captain. He was a member of Local Union 1244 New Orleans (District Council 10), Brotherhood of Painters and Paperhangers for over 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, William McConville, who helped raise him, his mother, Joyce McConville, and his sister, Gay Ann Ives and brother, John Bennett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Conzonire Brown and his five children, William, Kevin, Adam (Nicole), Rachael (Nathan), and Jonathan (Jela) and his grandchildren, Jack, George, Luna, James, and Jonny. The eldest of his seven siblings, he is survived by his brothers, Edgar Brown, Thomas Brown, Dennis Bennett (Michelle), and sister, Jannie Braud (Charles) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Freddie was the laughter of our family and was loved by many. A gregarious teller of tall tales and a true New Orleans character, he spent his childhood in the Irish Channel and St. Thomas neighborhoods. He was an honorable and generous man who cared for others. He treasured his time with his five grandchildren and was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather to our family. He passed away surrounded by loved ones and will be deeply missed.

We want to thank all those who helped care for our loved one and the staff of St. Joseph's Hospice for the support that they gave our family.
