Wayne Lee Wheeler

Wayne passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from a long battle with autoimmune cirrhosis of the liver.

He grew up in West Feliciana and graduated from St. Francisville High School. Wayne was an avid musician, and it was how he connected with people throughout his life. He always had the radio in his living room playing music you could hear before he even opened the door to the house, and he would most likely be singing along once you got inside. He loved sweet tea made out in the yard steeped in the Louisiana sun. Anyone who knew him knew he was a gas station food connoisseur. He knew where to go to find the good stuff.

He was a patient teacher and loved to watch his kids get behind the wheel for the first time or help them learn how to do something new. He couldn’t help but crack a smile when he was supposed to be getting on to you for something. He was a pillar for his family and was eager to help when called upon. He loved his family deeply.

His love for music was an inspiration to many, and you could see the way it fed his soul. He loved animals with his whole heart, and this love could only be overshadowed by a newborn baby for whom he always had a smile and sweet words.

Wayne is survived by his granddaughter Chandler Grace Wheeler, son Jared Michael Wheeler, his daughter Logan Wheeler Ramirez, his son in law Jeremy Robert Ramirez, his brother Walter James “Jim” Wheeler the 2nd, his sister Janice “Jan” W Broussard.

He is preceded in death by his sister Theresa W Pennington and parents Frankie Kindig and step father Jim Kindig and father Walter James “Jimmy” Wheeler.
