Walter (Layne) Broussard entered into the Heavenly gates on February 1, 2026, at the age of 84 years. He was surrounded by his family and passed away peacefully at his home.
Born on August 20th, 1941, in New Iberia, Louisiana, was the only child of Ova and Doris Hemphill Broussard.
Layne graduated from Istrouma High School in 1959 and attended Louisiana State University. He proudly served in the United States Army beginning August 15, 1960, with Delta Company, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division under the 3rd U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. After military service, he worked over 30 years at Borden Chemical and later taught at ITI Technical College and Alliance Safety Counsel. A devoted LSU Tigers fan, Layne enjoyed fishing, yard work—often earning “Yard of the Month”—and faithfully served for many years as an usher and greeter at Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ova and Doris Broussard, and his children, Johnny Pomares III, and Ashley Pomares Forbes.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Josie Broussard; daughters Tasha Dupre (husband Gaines), Melissa Bahlinger (husband Rus), and Skylar Landry; grandchildren Blake Anderson, Brooke Anderson, Peyton Bahlinger (wife McKenzie), Grace Bahlinger, Masyn Winningham, Bella Winningham, Josh Pomares Browning, and Jacob Pomares Browning; great-grandchildren Greyson Harper, Liam Pettit, Abel Pettit, Priscilla Rouyea, and Drew Bahlinger; and ten half siblings that he met later in life.
Walter Layne Broussard was a man of honor and integrity. His life was a testament to his love and dedication to his family, his work, and his country. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
Visitation will be held at The Church International, 13423 Highway 431 in St. Amant on Thursday, February 5, 2026 beginning at 9:00am followed by funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will be at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond.
