Tracia Von Dameck

May 5, 1961 — April 24, 2024

Tracia Von Dameck, aged 62, of Plaquemine, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on April 24, 2023, at her home. Born in Baton Rouge on May 5, 1961, she was the cherished only child of Patricia and Ted Von Dameck.

A graduate of Tara High School in 1979 and Louisiana State University in 1983 with a degree in marketing, Tracia's vibrant spirit was evident through her involvement in various clubs and roles, including president of the Thespian Club at Tara. She also served as the design editor of the LSU Gumbo.

Tracia's professional journey was diverse, involving marketing and administrative roles at Fifth Generation Systems, Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, and the YMCA, among others. In recognition of her commitment to the arts and excellence in advertising, she was awarded the President’s Service Award in 1989 by the American Advertising Federation-Baton Rouge (AAFBR). Always willing to try new challenges, she also prepared taxes at H&R Block, and planned security at Cortana Mall (about which she had some interesting stories)!  She expressed her artistic flair in every endeavor.

Known for her generosity, encouragement, humor, and endless creativity, Tracia made a profound impact on everyone around her. She was a “Mary Poppins” to numerous children; always ready to engage in some mischief, unnecessarily bandage a minor injury, or provide kind words to soothe hurt feelings, she was greatly adored by her unofficial charges. Her legacy of kindness and community involvement will be dearly missed and forever remembered, and she was a friend to all.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, C.S. (Bo) and Sammie Lane Sistrunk Jarvis; parents, Patricia Ann Jarvis von Dameck and Theodore Charles von Dameck; aunt Sharon Jarvis Cayer; and uncles C.W. and John Jarvis. Her paternal grandparents, Harry C. and Lois Nobles von Dameck, also predeceased her.

Tracia is survived by her cousins Jinjer Young, Elizabeth Lazarus, Niki Jarvis Kelley, and Chris Jarvis; aunt Peggy Jarvis; stepmother Glenda von Dameck Tomlinson; godchild Anna Morgan; friend Issac L. Spears and his children Makayla and Issac Spears, Jr ; and numerous close, lifelong friends she loved as family.

A memorial service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held via Zoom on Saturday, June 1, from 11:00 a.m. until noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family has organized a GoFundMe to defray end of life expenses. Details can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-assist-jinjer-manage-tracias-final-affairs.

Tracia's life was a testament to the power of giving and loving unconditionally. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
