Stanley "Rocky" Walsh, II

May 3, 1947 — October 28, 2023

Baton Rouge

Beloved child of God Stanley “Rocky” Atkinson Walsh II entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 28th, 2023 at the age of 76. He died in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana home that he shared with his cherished parents up until the time of their passing.

A Louisiana native, Rocky was born on May 3rd, 1947 in New Orleans, and he grew up primarily in the small mining town of Port Sulphur where his father worked as an engineer and his mother as a secretary. The family also spent a few years in California during Rocky’s adolescent years. Rocky’s mother kept a warm and inviting home, always cooking hot meals and delicious desserts, hosting company, and putting her creative gifts to work with arts and crafts projects. A popular and athletic young man, Rocky graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University. He spent a short time in the U.S. Marine Corps. Rocky inherited his father’s curious mind, and liked learning about science and nature. He also enjoyed watching a good football game.

Rocky is predeceased by his parents, Alva Jaspriza Walsh and Stanley Atkinson Walsh Senior, and his sister, Judy Walsh Marcus. Rocky’s sister Judy predeceased him by only a few months, at which time the family had the opportunity to hear some of Rocky’s own thoughts on death in a letter he penned. Rocky wrote that he felt a hollowness inside him from the passing of his sister Judy, however upon that transition, her “natural constitutional essence was released,” and his sister “carries on.” He concluded “Be celebratory!”

Rocky is survived by his brother-in-law, R. David Marcus, his niece, Erin Marcus, his cousins Jan Ragas, Marla Jaspriza, Pam Racca, Rennie Jaspriza and wife Sharon Jaspriza, and his wonderful dog, RokRok, who has been lovingly adopted by a Maryland family. Rocky is also survived by dear family friends from Baton Rouge, the Butts and the Bienvenus. Details on a service honoring Rocky will be forthcoming. Charitable donations in Rocky’s honor may be made to Best Friends Animal Society.
