Stanley Pierre Smith

Stanley Pierre Smith of Gonzales, Louisiana passed away due to complications of Covid and pneumonia at Baton Rouge General Hospital on Friday evening June 7, 2024. He was 71 years old.

 Stanley was born February 3, 1953, in Tucson, Arizona. He was from a large and loving family and was one of seven children. He had fond and humorous memories of growing up in Angola, Louisiana where his father worked. Stanley formed lifelong friendships at Angola where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and Little League baseball as a catcher.

 Stanley graduated from Saint Francisville High School in 1971 where he played football and was well liked by his classmates and teachers. After high school, Stanley attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe, joined the Army and served honorably for two years.

 Stanley married his first wife, Barbie Russel Smith, and they lived in Calhoun, LA for many years where they raised their son Shane Smith and celebrated their grandchildren.

 Stanley worked for his father-in-law at Bobby Russell Construction Company. After his father-in-law retired, Stanley and Barbie became successful owners of the family construction business.

 Stanley was an avid home chef, music lover, and dedicated New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed live music and was always seen on the dance floor. He was a great dancer and singer. He attended the Marksville Couchon du Lait yearly and shared his love for home cooking with all those around him.

 Later in life, Stanley married Linda Hurley Smith and moved to Gonzales, LA. They were very hospitable neighbors and friends, were involved in weekly card games, and often entertained their neighbors and family at their home.

 Stanely was an active and loyal father and grandfather. He attended ceremonies, ball games, and programs for his grandchildren. He loved them dearly.

 Stanley was generous with his talents, time, and love to all of us. He will be greatly missed but we know we will see him again, in glory, in Heaven.

 Stanley was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Knox Smith; his mother, Verdie Katherine Gauthier Smith; his brothers, Eddie Knox Smith Jr, and WJ (Willard Joseph) Smith; and his sister, Zil (Ezilda) Mary Smith. His wife’s sons Edward Joseph Hurley, IV and Todd Anthony Hurley, Sr also proceeded him in death.

 He is survived by his wife Linda Hurley Smith, his son Shane (Mandi) Smith, his wife’s daughter Desiree Hurley Munster, his six grandchildren and his wife’s six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister, Lois Marie Smith Chaves and brothers, James (Linda) Smith and Carl (Annie) Smith.

 Stanley was cremated and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at his home in Gonzales. 

 Please join us at 40560 Pelican Point Parkway, Gonzales, LA 70737, for a casual celebration of Stanley’s life. Cake and refreshments will be provided. 

 Feel free to bring any adult beverages you would like to have to celebrate Stanley. He would love to see all of us enjoying ourselves in his home.
