Our sweet Sonya Kimble, 79, passed away on February 9, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was born on February 9, 1947, in McComb, Mississippi, and grew up a Baton Rouge girl, proudly graduating from Baton Rouge High School. She spent much of her life in and between Louisiana and Mississippi before ultimately settling in Walker, where she built a home rooted in faith, family, and unwavering devotion.
Sonya’s life was defined by the roles she cherished most: wife, mother, Mawmaw, and feeder of many. She worked hard her entire life, not only to provide, but because she believed deeply in giving her very best in all things. Her faith was her foundation and her anchor, shaping the way she lived and guiding the way she loved. As an active member of Walker Baptist Church, she found joy in fellowship and especially treasured her Women’s Patchwork Sunday School group, where friendships were strengthened, and faith was nurtured.
Her kitchen was the heart of her home. There was not a thing she could not cook, and no one ever left her table hungry. Meals were more than food; they were expressions of care, comfort, and belonging. Though we will miss her cooking, we will miss her presence far more.
Her garden reflected the same quiet devotion. There was not a thing she could not grow. Flowers bloomed and vegetables flourished under her steady hands. What she tended thrived, and that truth extended far beyond her garden beds. She cultivated a life of faith, resilience, and love in her family, and that legacy will continue for generations.
Her love was never about grand gestures. It was found in thoughtful acts of service, in showing up without hesitation, and in doing what needed to be done without seeking recognition. Everyone knew she would do anything for anyone. She had a way of making others feel cared for simply by being present. She was truly one of a kind.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Isadore Paul Archer and Bailey Kimble; her parents, Alfonse Cotten and Jean Cotten; her sister, Sherry Cotten; and her beloved daughter, Missy Archer.
She is survived by her sons, Greg Archer (Valerie Archer), Jeremy Kimble (Lynette Kimble), and Jason Kimble; her grandchildren, Ethan Archer, Avery Archer, Victoria Kimble, Olivia Kimble, Lathan Kimble, Ben Kimble, and Owen Kimble; her siblings, Skip Cotten (Bunny Cotten) and Steve Cotten (Jill Cotten); and her lifelong friend, Corky Keeys.
Services will be held at Walker Baptist Church, 10696 Florida Blvd., Walker, Louisiana 70785, on Friday, February 13, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Pallbearers are Jacob Brock, Drew Cotten, Brandon Frazier, Eric Frazier, Jay Gomez, and Jerry Jennings Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Walker Baptist Church Food Pantry in honor of Sonya, to continue her legacy of feeding others and caring for those in need.
Her life was a testimony that love is shown in action, and that being a blessing to others is something we can all choose to give.
