Born December 31st ,1936 in her family home on Sorrel Ave in Baton Rouge and a resident of Pride, she died surrounded by her loved ones at Central Guest House on Holy Thursday April 17th, 2025. She was 88 years old. She was a homemaker and former co-owner with her husband of B&S Cylinder Head Repair on Scenic Hwy in Baton Rouge. Shirley enjoyed working in her flower beds, nature walks, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 4826 Main St. in Zachary at 10:00am. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will take place at Louisiana National Cemetary at 1p.m. where she will buried with her husband of 56 years, Bootsie.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Mary and David Fruge; grandchildren, Megan Kelly, Cierra Ervin and husband Jared, Macie Fruge, and Derek Hopwood; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ruby, Addison, Destiny, and Liam Kelly, Marygail and Jack Ervin and 2 1/2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Long.
She is proceeded in death by her husband John Markey; daughter, Debra Hopwood, and two infant daughters, Susan and Philomena. Sisters, Mary Sharon, Gloria Halbritter; brother, Paul Waguespack of Massachusetts and parents Emile and Thelma (Cannon) Waguespack.
