Listen to Obituary

Samuel Eugene Bryant, 78, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Bryant and Mildred Johnson, and by his beloved daughter, Cynthia McCalister.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeannie, and by his three daughters- Samantha, Micki, and Alicia- who were his greatest pride. Sam also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Carl McCalister, Brittany Wainwright, and Blake Berry. He is further survived by his brothers, David and Jim (wife Karen), along with nephews and nieces who remained close to him throughout his life.

Raised in Brazil, Indiana, Sam joined the United States Army immediately after high school. He was soon sent to Vietnam, where he courageously served two and a half tours. His time in the service shaped much of who he became steady, loyal, and quietly strong. After returning home, Sam eventually made his way to Louisiana, where he worked as a fuel transporter until his well-earned retirement.

Sam loved his family above all else. He also had a fondness for fishing, tending to his yard, and enjoying simple pleasures especially cheese and anything fried. Though he was a man of few words, the words he did share carried weight, humor, and wisdom. People listened when Sam spoke, because he never wasted breath on anything unimportant.

Those who knew Sam will remember his dry wit, his steadfast sense of responsibility, and the comforting calm he brought into any room. He was the kind of man who showed love not through grand speeches, but through small acts of service fixing what was broken, showing up when needed, and offering quiet support in difficult times.

Sam's legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the strength he instilled in everyone who loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he leaves behind will continue to warm the hearts of his family and friends for years to come.

May he rest in peace.

A graveside service will be held for Sam on December 12th, 2025 at the Louisiana National Military Cemetery Complex 303 W Mt Pleasant Rd, Zachary, LA 70791 for 11:00 AM.
