Memorial service celebrating the life of Ruby Evelyn Cavaness of West Monroe, LA. will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at New Life Apostolic Church, 5900 Jonesboro Rd. West Monroe, LA. 71292, with Pastor Tommy McMurry officiating, under the direction of Church Funeral Services and Crematory.

Ruby Evelyn Walker Cavaness was born September 21, 1946 in Lorraine, Texas. She passed from this life January 30, 2024 in West Monroe, Louisiana at the age of 77.

It would be wrong to say that Ruby lost her battle with cancer because she never stopped fighting. Regardless of how sick doctors declared her to be, she continued to fight. Others would have given up but not Ruby! Ruby stayed strong and provided her family and friends with a real-life example of what it means to be resilient and to persevere in the face of incredible odds. Simply put, there was nobody quite like Ruby!

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth Huddleston, brother, two sisters, grandsons Stephen Head and Jeremy Cavanass, and one special niece Lennie Walker.

She is survived by daughters, Georgia Sanderson and Iva (DeeDee) Head and husband Jeff, sons, Chad Cavaness and wife Freida, and Lonnie Cavaness. Additional survivors include two brothers, one sister, five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ruby was blessed with a host of friends she considered to be a part of her family. She was MawMaw, Gammy, and Nanny to countless children, 25 of them related by blood and many more to whom she was connected through love.

Ruby's greatest joy was helping others. She didn’t help out of obligation, but because it was what defined her and helped give her purpose. Whenever Ruby met someone who was struggling, she did her best to ease their burden by any means necessary. Over the years, she opened her home to individuals and families who were in need. Many times the people she helped moved from being aquantances to friends and from friends to an extension of her family. She gave out countless bags of groceries and blessed people in every walk of life with her giving spirit. Today, it is our desire to challenge you to give and love like Ruby.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Ridgecrest Nursing Home and Elara Caring for the love and care they provided to Ruby over the last two years of her life. For all of the phone calls, visits, texts, and cards, the family says thank you and appreciates all that you did to care for and honour Ruby.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
