Ronald Maurice Banta (“Ronnie”, “Breaux”, “Pop”)

Ronald Maurice Banta (“Ronnie”, “Breaux”, “Pop”) peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Plaquemine, LA. on Nov. 3, 1938, to Vivian Burleigh and Maurice Banta and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and its surrounding areas.

Pop retired from LADOTD after many years of service in various capacities. Post-retirement, he continued to work in the private-sector engineering field until he was 76 years old. He made many fond memories and good friends during his career. Prior to his career, he proudly served his country in the US Army, completing a tour of Vietnam as part of the 3rd Radio Research Unit, a detachment of the Army Security Agency. He made many lifelong friendships during his time serving in the Army.

Pop enjoyed hunting, golf, canoeing/kayaking, and many other outdoor activities. He enjoyed LSU sports and attended many LSU sporting events alongside his wife, Debi, who survived him in addition to his only son, Deion A. Banta (Baylee), and a caring niece Paula Broussard Gebhart (Mike). Pop was also survived by a sister, Maureen Banta Lewis (Fred), her two children Matthew Lewis & Elizabeth Lewis Deal (Jesse) and great niece Eliana Deal, niece Holly Bourgeois, and great nieces Amber & Katy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved stepmother, Sylvia Gates Banta.

Pop and his family will be forever grateful to his caregiver, Nancy Keller (Caring Angels). No one ever thought that anyone could tame him, but Nancy came dang close :-). His family is also forever grateful to LaShae, Terri, and Jatana of Fidelis King Richard Residential Care Home for their outstanding care and love.

Pop will be laid to rest at the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA in a private memorial service with full military honors.
