Ozelia Mary Aydell Keller

A lifelong resident of French Settlement, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026. Born on June 17, 1927, in French Settlement, Ozelia was the devoted daughter of Alfred and Iola Matherne Aydell.

On December 27, 1947, Ozelia (Miss Shoot) married the love of her life, Thomas John Keller, with whom she shared a life filled with joy, laughter, and devotion. Together, they built a home where warmth and generosity were ever-present.

Ozelia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Robert Aydell, Alvin Aydell and her sister Ruby Lewis. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in her surviving family members: her beloved children, Linda Salassi and Diana Darbonne and husband Wesley; her treasured grandchildren, Glen Meades Jr. (Amy), Michael Meades (Tiffany), and Galen Salassi (Nikki); and her precious great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Ridley, Aiden, Conner, and Carter.

Ozelia dedicated many years to nurturing young minds and spirits as a cook at French Settlement School, where she worked tirelessly for 22.5 years until her retirement on July 1, 1987. In her leisure, Ozelia found joy in cooking and quilting, sharing her creations with family and friends, who marveled at the love and attention woven into each piece.

A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ozelia found great solace and community within its walls. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she was known for her unwavering kindness and compassion.

As we reflect on the life of Ozelia, we celebrate a woman whose warmth, kindness and devotion to family left an enduring legacy for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Golden Age Nursing Home for their attentive care and support.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ozelia's life at a service to be held at the old St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement on September 12, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM with service starting at 11:00AM. Burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery will follow the service.
