O. Gene Watts, a beloved figure in his community and a cherished family man, was born on October 27th, 1940, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He peacefully passed away at his home in Zachary on August 28, 2024, after a brief bout with illness, surrounded by his devoted family.
Oliver dedicated his life to the automotive industry, working diligently from a young age. His hard work and passion ultimately led him to become the proud owner and operator of his own salvage yard business, where he not only thrived professionally but also built lasting relationships over the years. Oliver graduated from Central High School in 1958, an achievement that set the foundation for his industrious career.
Known for his kind and welcoming nature, Oliver lived life to the fullest, embodying a spirit of generosity and warmth. He had a zest for life that resonated with those around him. In his earlier years, he developed a love for drag racing, which exemplified his adventurous spirit. Over time, he shifted his focus to horses, which morphed into a profound interest in cattle care, embracing the joys of rural life.
Above all, Oliver cherished his family. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, reveling in every moment shared with them. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Gracie Watts, his son David Watts, (Kim), daughter Dena Coutee (Brad), he is also survived by his son Keith Watts and his girlfriend Ronda, nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Oliver's lively presence and unyielding love will be remembered fondly by his family and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his maternal mother Lucille Watts, father Claude Watts, mother Ethel Watts, brother Danny Lane Watts, and sister Claudette Roberts. They are now reunited, recalling memories shared together.
A Celebration of Life for O. Gene Watts will be held on September 4th, 2024, at Galilee Baptist Church in Zachary, Louisiana. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at 10:00 AM, with a memorial service to be held at 11:30 AM, to honor and remember the remarkable life he lived.
Oliver was a man who truly embodied kindness and love, and he leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories for all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy will continue through his family, forever reminding them of the joy, laughter, and warmth he brought into their lives.
