Baton Rouge

Neill David Schexnayder, a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, completed his journey Home on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at the age of 80, following a long battle with cancer.

After graduating from the University of Louisiana Lafayette with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Neill earned certification in three states and for more than 50 years worked tirelessly as a Project Manager for Jacobs, CB&I, and Beard Engineering. Over the years he has very fondly remembered two co-workers in particular, Clyde Lasseigne and Sonia Beall.

Neill was known for his love of cooking alongside his wife, with one of his favorite dishes being Crawfish Étouffée. He loved to play poker with his family and had the most convincing straight face. He held a black belt in Karate.

His love for his wife and children is unmatched and, along with his wife, Neill was a diehard sports fan. He loved woodworking, something special he shared with his dad. He always held tremendous pride in his work and accomplishments, large and small alike.

Neil is survived by his wife, Katherine (Duet) Schexnayder, daughters Jill Bailey (Jimmy), Donna Shill (Clay), KellenAnne, and Danielle; step-daughter, Dana McDonald (CJ); grandchildren/step-grandchildren Josh Baily, Haley Langlois, Savanah Blais, Noah McDonald; sisters Rita Hardegen (Vernon), Lynn Nicholls (Thomas †), Pat Baker (Dale); plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Earl Schexnayder and Rita Olivier Schexnayder; son, Justin Vice Schexnayder; sister, Gloria Dearie (Hugh †); and brother, Jimmy (Sheilah).

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday, March 27, 12:00noon, at Baton Rouge First Church of the Nazarene, 9955 Old Hammond Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Church Office: (225) 926-8358 A reception will follow at 1:00pm.
