Mason K. Sandusky Jr., known affectionately as "Sandy," passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 12, 1952 in Crestview, Florida, Mason lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and personal passions.
Sandy dedicated many years to a successful career in the insurance industry, from which he retired with dignity and respect. His professional life was a testament to his integrity and commitment, qualities that resonated within his family life and community involvement.
Sandy was a devoted member of Zoar Baptist Church, where his faith was a cornerstone of his daily life. His spiritual devotion was matched by the love he held for his family, whom he cherished deeply. Known for his warm and caring nature, Sandy was a steadfast presence in the lives of those he loved.
An avid outdoorsman, Mason found joy in gardening, particularly cultivating vegetables, which reflected his nurturing spirit. He also pursued hobbies such as golf, fishing, hunting, and hiking, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and share memorable moments with family and friends.
He is survived by his dear wife, Susan P. Sandusky; their sons, Mark and his wife Crystal, Rhett and his wife Brandee; his sisters, Patti, and Kim; and five beloved grandchildren Savannah Sandusky, Sophia Sandusky, Madison Sandusky, Cora Jane Sandusky and Wiley Sandusky, who brought immense joy to his later years. Together, they carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Mason was preceded in death by his father, Mason K. Sandusky Sr., and his mother, Maudie Lee Weatherly Sandusky, whose memory he honored throughout his life.
As we remember Mason K. Sandusky Jr., we celebrate a man whose life was defined by love, faith, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His passing leaves a profound void, but his spirit and the memories he created will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
A ceremony celebrating Sandy's life will be held on Friday June 5, 2026, at Zoar Baptist Church, visitation will begin at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
