Mary Ann Sciara Recotta

Mary "Maw Maw Hammond” Sciara Recotta passed away at her home on May 6, 2024, at the age of 87. Mary was born to Frank and Nellie Cardinale Sciara on December 28, 1936, in Hammond, LA.   On Saturday, May 11, visitation will be held at 11:30 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, LA until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm.  Interment to follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery on Western Ave. in Hammond, LA.

As a child, Mary attended Natalbany Elementary, Midway, and graduated from Hammond High School.     

Mary, a devoted mother, baby sister of seven siblings, daughter, and a dear friend will always be remembered for her kindness, gentleness, and caring nature. If you ever visited her at home, you never left hungry and everyone she met was a friend for life.  She retired from North Oaks Daycare after 20 years.  She also worked for Citizens National Bank in the proofing Department. 

Mary "Maw Maw" is survived by her children, Russell (Susan) Joseph Recotta Jr, David Wayne Recotta, and Michael (Brenda)Jay Recotta; her grandchildren Staci (Mathew) Renee Recotta Jones,  Andrew James Recotta, Christopher Matthew Recotta, Stephen Joseph Recotta,  Melissa Ann Recotta,  and Scott Michael Recotta; great-grandchildren, Charlie Rae Recotta, Mikayla Jade Recotta, Colden Jay Recotta, Kyliee Brooke Recotta, Ashlynn Renee Jones and Mason Haze Jones;  as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nellie Sciara; her siblings, Joseph (Lucy) Sciaro, Vincent (Mary) Sciaro, Alphonse "Cotton" (Nikki) Sciara, Emile (Caroline) Schiaro, Frances Sciara Orrell, Jennie (Sam) Sciara Leto, Angie (Joseph) Sciara Galladora.  She is also preceded in death by her loving grandchildren, Chelsea Ann Recotta and Michael Jay Recotta II
