Martha S Kelly

Martha Stuckey Kelly, daughter of the late Thomas Carlyle Stuckey and Nelda (Polly) Rawls Stuckey. Beloved wife of the late Robert Emile Kelly. Survived by her three sons, Jason Robert Kelly, Brent Thomas Kelly and his wife Brenda, and Robert Emile Kelly Jr. Also survived by her three precious grandchildren, Shane Thomas Kelly, Vivian Marie Kelly, and Mason deGrasse Kelly.

Martha is preceded in death by her brother Dr. Thomas Carlyle Stuckey, Jr. of Baton Rouge and his wife Kathleen Ward Stuckey, Patricia Tucker Duke, a cousin almost like a sister, and Linda Smith Gruber, a best friend of over 63 years. She is survived by her wonderful nieces, Kara Stuckey Doherty and her husband Allen, and Aimee Stuckey Kilchrist and her husband Jason, and nephew, Dr. Thomas Carlyle Stuckey III and his wife Becky, as well as a host of friends and cousins.

Mrs. Kelly’s husband was a retired New Orleans policeman who passed away in 2011, her childhood friend, and the great love of her life.

Martha retired from teaching with the Jefferson Parish School System in 2011. Her teaching career also included six years as an instructor at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. Some of her best and longest friendships were formed as a young teacher at Higgins High School in Marrero, LA and at Riverdale High School in Jefferson, LA.

Mrs. Kelly was a native of New Orleans, but moved to Baton Rouge in 2015 to be near her only brother. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, and a retired member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an organization of women educators. Martha never missed an opportunity to see a Mardi Gras parade and truly loved Christmas, celebrating the birth of Christ, and sharing with her family, especially her wonderful grandchildren.

Martha would like that you remember her as a woman of faith first, a good daughter and sister, a loving wife and mother, and a good friend. Shalom my friends, Shalom!
