Marlene Elizabeth Stroud Jarratt died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, on her 90th birthday, in her home in Baton Rouge where she resided for 51 years.
She was born to Forrest R. Stroud Sr. and Tresel Mildred Moll in Grand Rapids, Mich. She married her high school sweetheart, Carl Franklin Jarratt, and they were happily married for 70 years. Together they raised three children.
She was a longtime member of the Church of God. In her early years she enjoyed bowling, and later she and her husband participated in Senior Olympics. She loved plants and cactus, cooking and crocheting afghans for her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Marlene was the last of 10 children and was preceded in death most recently by two siblings, a twin brother, Harley ‘Skip’ Stroud in 2024, and a sister, Barbara Ewing, in 2025. She was also preceded in death by her mother in 1965 and her father in 1973, and a grandchild, Toni Sue Foster, in 2024.
She is survived by her children: James John Jarratt, Cindy Sue Davis (Randall Davis Jr.) and Daniel Michael Jarratt (Trish Cali); 6 grandchildren: Jamie, Monique, Brandon, Lori (Nicholas Sandau), Carrie and Mary Danse (Ross Michel); 8 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and friends, Cherris and Paul Sandau, Stacey and Henry Jones and their 3 children, Billie, Zoe and Eli, and Mary Kirkpatrick.
