Mark James Starling, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on April 24, 2025, at Baton Rouge General Hospital, at the age of 69.
Mark attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and Robert E. Lee High School, graduating in 1973. He went on to earn a degree in Art from Louisiana State University before completing his Juris Doctor at LSU Law School in April 1991. Following law school, he worked with Judge Melvin Shortess before joining the family business, Starling Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John, and Helen Starling; his brother, John Starling; his in-laws, Jim and Gladys Cockerill of Gretna, Nebraska; and his niece, Alais Salvadore.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret (Maggie) Cockerill Starling; his daughter, March Moore, and her husband, Danny; and his beloved granddaughters, Aria and Ella Moore. He also leaves behind his dear "special son" Lonnie Suey and wife Terri, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends whom he considered family.
Mark had a wide range of passions. He was an avid reader and a dedicated fan of LSU sports. He had a deep appreciation for music, philosophy, art, and poetry, with several of his own poetic works having been published. The true joy of his life was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, who were the light of his life.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Port Vincent Community Center, 18500 LA-16, Port Vincent, LA 70726.
