Marian Elizabeth Ponder Givens, born on July 13, 1933, in McComb, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2026. She was a remarkable woman whose legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate to have known her.
Marian was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Istrouma High School, a source of unwavering support to her husband with the businesses they owned and thoroughly enjoyed her work as an Avon Lady.
Marian was a loving caregiver to her core. She was an amazing wife that doted on her husband, a devoted mother that loved her children, a beloved aunt that was called a “second mother”, and the gold standard of grandmothers who spoiled every child that called her Mawmaw. She will be remembered for her beautifully chaotic family gatherings, always wanting to win at canasta, and anything chocolate.
Family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her daughter Tammy Morris and Chris, her son Doug Givens and Dayna, and her sister Carolyn Ellender and Ervie. Her legacy also includes numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and recently great great grandchildren for which she was so proud.
Marian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Plez "P. D." Givens, as well as her parents, James and Anna Ponder, her daughter Betty Givens, her son Jim Givens, and her sister Ginger Pipes. Although she leaves behind a profound sense of loss, the impact of her life and the love she shared will continue to inspire all who cherish her memory.
A ceremony celebrating the life of Marian will be held on Sunday January 18, 2026, at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, Baton Rouge, visitation will begin at 1:30 pm until time of the service at 3:00 pm.
