Margaret Burns Law, a native of Leechburg, PA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on October 17, 2023, at The Carpenter House after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 24, 1953, Margaret embraced values, humility, and respect for others throughout her life. Despite the challenges she might have faced, she often reminded people that “Life is good!” Margaret dedicated her life to helping others with her passion for assisting and educating students especially those diagnosed with dyslexia, holding positions at Goodwood Elementary School, Woodlawn Junior High School, Redemptorist High School, Central Community School Systems, and Louisiana Key Academy during her teaching career.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 51 years, Alan Law; sons Damian Law and wife Melissa Law, and Joshua Law and wife Emily Law; five grandchildren, Chance Vickers, Ty Law, Alexa Law, Jaison Law, and Brenna Law; sisters and brothers-in-law Doreen and Todd Schrecengost and Shirley and Dave Callahan; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Barbara Burns; brother-and-sister-in-law Robert and Judy Law; sister-and-brother-in-law Jeanne and Hank Spala; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Lucy Burns; father-and-mother-in-law Robert Law and Alice Law Pert; brother, Lewis Burns; sister-in-law Jane Law; and granddaughter, Kylee Vickers. Margaret was loved by family and friends alike and touched many lives in her time on earth. She will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at Istrouma Baptist Church on Monday, November 6, 2023, with visitation from 10 – 11 AM and services immediately following.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, specifically Dr. David Hanson and his team, and to the staff at St. Joseph Hospice and The Carpenter House, especially Garnette Brignac, for their compassion and outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or St. Joseph Hospice.
