Malcolm Bernard Moreau

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Bernard Moreau, who entered his eternal rest on August 29th at the age of 91.

Born August 11, 1935 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He spent his childhood in Pineville before moving with his family to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. After graduating from Bay High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he trained as a weather observer — A true Thunderbird.

Following his military service, Malcolm returned to Mississippi & began a 40-year career with the National Weather Service. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Rosemarie Leconte. They married & later made their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where they raised their daughter, Tammy Ann.

Malcolm's Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout his entire life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Aloysius Parish for 53 years where he proudly served as an usher & enjoyed participating in the Men's Club.

After retiring from the National Weather Service, Malcolm wasn't quite ready to slow down. He joined the Louisiana State Office of Climatology at LSU, where he continued working part-time until finally retiring at the age of 79.

Growing up in Mississippi, Malcolm naturally became an Ole Miss fan. However, his wife converted him to LSU, & he embraced the Tigers wholeheartedly. He & Rosemarie shared countless adventures traveling to LSU football & baseball games. Together, they were fortunate to witness all five of Coach Bertman's National Championships. Omaha, Nebraska became one of their favorite vacation destinations.

Malcolm proudly passed his love of football & baseball to his only daughter. Some of their happiest memories were made together at Alex Box Stadium. He was a proud member of the LSU Baseball Coaches Committee & a charter member of the LSU Football Gridiron Club.

He was also a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, following the team from their days at Tulane Stadium to the Superdome. He never lost faith in his Saints & was thrilled to finally see them win it all in 2009.

Above all, Malcolm loved welcoming family & friends into his home, where there was always good food, laughter, & a story to tell. Everyone looked forward to an invitation to one of his famous fish fries or crawfish boils. His home was a place where friends became family & memories were made around the table.

Malcolm had a heart condition that was often referred to as his "God-given Bypass" by his Cardiologist & dear friend, Dr. Boyd Helm Sr. In his later years, Malcolm's dementia progressed slowly. Following the passing of his beloved Rosemarie, his health declined rapidly.

It brings great comfort to know that Malcolm's memory has now been restored, his broken heart has been healed, & he was been reunited with his beloved wife of 60 years & all those he loved so dearly in heaven.

Malcolm is survived by his daughter, Tammy Ann. He also leaves behind extended family & countless friends who became family & will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosemarie. His parents, Louis & Alise Moreau, three brothers, & sister. Throughout his life, Malcolm shared a particularly close bond with his eldest brother, Buddy.

Tammy has tremendous gratitude for the loving & compassionate care her precious daddy received from Dr. Boyd Helm Sr. & Baton Rouge Cardiology, the doctors & nurses of Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet, Hospice of Baton Rouge, Cast-a-Line Care, & especially St. Joseph Hospice. Their kindness & compassion brought comfort & peace during Malcolm's final days.

Funeral Services

Visitation services for Malcolm will be held on Friday, September 18th at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Family & friends are invited to gather beginning at 9:30 am with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 am. A funeral service will immediately follow.
