Listen to Obituary

A loving husband, father, grandfather & friend, he entered eternal rest on Tuesday May 20, 2025. Maurice was 93 yrs old, a veteran of the Korean War and graduate of LSU. He was a Geologist and Environmental Specialist, retiring in 1990 from LA DEQ. He will be greatly missed and live on forever in our hearts. An outdoors enthusiast his entire life, Maurice’s passions were hunting, fishing, raising hunting dogs; he was never without a beautiful vegetable garden or fruit trees. Maurice spent much of his life hunting & fishing in the Atchafalaya Basin as well as in the Pierre Part, Belle River, Morgan City areas where his camp was located.

For a number of years (post-retirement) Maurice raised Christmas trees on his land in Iberville Parish. His family would join him each fall when the tree farm was ready to open; memorable years he cherished! Maurice had a long-time passion for Cajun French Music and its heritage. It unfolded in the middle of his life when he & his wife Flo first began attending Cajun dances; a fun hobby that lasted for 30 yrs! Maurice actively served as a board member in the Cajun French Music Association and wrote a monthly article titled “Cajun Heritage”. Maurice & Flo met many wonderful people along the way that shared their love of Cajun French Music and its heritage.

Maurice is survived by his wife Florence “Flo” Lasserre, his daughters Denise Lasserre-Gibson (Ted) and Janelle Lasserre Olinde (Patrick), grandsons Dustin Kahn (Rachel) & Devin Kahn (Ashley), granddaughters Morgan Olinde-Zaeff (Nick), Megan Olinde, Lauryn Gibson, great-granddaughters Juliana & Charlotte Zaeff, great-grandsons Rylee Kahn, Jon & Dalton Gibson, brother/sister in-law Bennett “Benny” & Pat Robichaux and numerous other relatives & friends.
