Laura Bond Garrison Arruda died peacefully in Denham Springs, Louisiana on March 16, 2026.
She was born February 26, 1929 in Dennis Mills, Louisiana and just recently celebrated her 97th birthday. Laura Bond grew up in St. Helena Parish on the rural plantation of her maternal grandfather, Thomas Homer Craft, and was a true country girl at heart. She graduated from OLOL nursing school in 1949 and had a long and varied career in nursing for over 50 years. She is survived by her children, Susan Benton Jackson (Bob), Stephen Benton (Sissy), Russell Benton and Jean Benton, five grandchildren Shelly Depner, Erin Key, Tyler Dowdy, Stephanie Benton, Joshua Benton and great grandson Damien Dowdy as well as numerous Garrison and Benton nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her loving mother, Jessie Craft Garrison and father, Charles Garrison, brothers Charles Edwin, Vernon, Ralph and Homer Garrison. A Memorial Visitation will begin at 10am Saturday, March 21 at Hebron Baptist Church in Denham Springs with her special friend, Mike Smith, officiating the service at 11AM. A private burial will be later in the Craft family cemetery in St. Helena.
A most special thanks is given to Palliative Care and Hospice of Baton Rouge, Tywanda, Rashida, Tina, Charity and Chris, ALL the loving staff at La Plantation Assisted Living in Denham Springs and MOST ESPECIALLY her dear caregivers these last few months, Ms. Gloria Perkins and Ms. Anna Mims. Our family was blessed to have all these wonderful friends in our lives and we are forever grateful. Mother will be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to:
