Baton Rouge, LA – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kurt Glynn Nickens, who left us on June 23rd, 2025, at the Centerpoint Rehab facility in Baton Rouge. Born on February 14th, 1976, in Baton Rouge, Kurt was a vibrant soul who brought joy and laughter to those around him throughout his 49 years.

Kurt was a true outdoorsman at heart, finding immense pleasure in the simple joys of life. He loved being on the water, whether it was boating on Maurepas Lake, going tubing, or fishing. Four-wheeler riding was another favorite pastime, as was simply being outside, soaking in nature. He had a deep appreciation for music, particularly rock bands, and cherished the moments of being immersed in the crowd with friends and family. A skilled guitarist and singer, Kurt had a shy side to his musical passion, often playing with the door shut, requiring loved ones to sneak a listen to his heartfelt performances. He also enjoyed watching movies and was known for his efforts at the BBQ grill, even if his culinary creations sometimes ended up "mostly burnt" from being delightfully distracted by conversation and company. Beyond the grill, Kurt had a sweet tooth and a passion for baking, delighting friends and family with his cookies and cakes. His true specialty, however, was his donuts, which were always a highly anticipated treat.

Kurt dedicated his professional life to construction, working alongside one of his good friends on projects across Louisiana. His talent for building extended to his personal life, as he loved tackling home projects. He meticulously crafted a screened-in front porch, rebuilt an entire kitchen after it flooded, and continuously undertook smaller house projects, including improvements to the laundry room, always making his living spaces more comfortable and beautiful.

He is survived by his beloved ex-wife, Christiana Nickens; his cherished daughters, Destany Fitzgerald, Casandra Saxon, and Hannah Pourciau; and his siblings, Beverly Caldwell, James Thompson, and Steven Nickens. Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Richard Glynn Caldwell. Kurt also leaves behind a close-knit circle of friends who were like family, including Chance Gandolfo, Scott Hudson, Steven Hudson, and David Fowler, along with many other relatives and friends who will dearly miss his presence.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Kurt's life will be held on Maurepas Lake at a date and time to be announced. It was Kurt's wish to be celebrated in a place that brought him so much joy, surrounded by the water and the people he loved. Details regarding the memorial will be shared with family and friends.

Kurt's infectious spirit, his love for the outdoors, his music, his passion for baking and building, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
