Karen Reeves King

Karen King, of Prairieville, LA, daughter of Betty Staton Reeves and the late Herman Edward Reeves, died peacefully at home while in the loving care of her family and Heart of Hospice (Baton Rouge). She was 66 years old and had valiantly battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) since 2020. Her family is eternally grateful for the help of the LSU Health New Orleans ALS Clinic for their support and guidance.

Karen is survived by her husband of more than 46 years, Billy King, her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kate King, and granddaughters, Clara and Amelia. She is also survived by her mother, Betty Reeves, older brothers Larry (Judy) and Ronnie (Linda) Reeves, and younger sisters Kathy Reeves and Donna (Dan) Smith, as well as numerous greatly loved nieces, nephews, and their children.

A public-school teacher for more than 26 years, Karen retired for health reasons. For most of her career, Karen taught Middle School Science and was well respected by colleagues, students, parents, and her community. As the wife of a pastor, Karen made a positive, encouraging impact on each church that she and her husband served. She was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and her life demonstrated that commitment.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 4:00 p.m. at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, 777 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805. A reception and greeting of friends will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the ALS Society (donate.als.org), or the church or charity of your choice.
