Joseph "Dodee" Lorio Tucker, Jr.

March 11, 1934 — January 10, 2024

Baton Rouge

~ Forever In Our Hearts ~

Joseph “Dodee” Lorio Tucker, Jr. passed away peacefully, at age 89, on January 10, 2024, with his devoted wife, whom he affectionately called “Sugaah," close by his side. Dodee was born in Baton Rouge on March 11,1934, to Joseph Lorio Tucker, Sr. and Lula Neff Tucker.

He honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Shortly after returning to civilian life, he found his niche and began his journey toward a lifelong career as a respected general contractor and premier home builder.

A wonderful husband, great dad, awesome grandfather and great-grandfather, and dear friend to many, Dodee had a unique passion for life that was rivaled only by his intense love for his family and friends. He enjoyed both cooking and entertaining and was exceptionally talented at both. His signature side dish, "Potatoes Dodee," was a fan favorite, but was just one of his countless (and always delicious) culinary creations.

Whether it was an ordinary Sunday dinner with family, a festive Saturday night gathering of friends during football season, or a cold winter evening spent with his buddies at the hunting camp, Dodee's extraordinary skills in the kitchen coupled with his ever-welcoming personality made every event he hosted a fun and memorable experience for all.

Dodee enjoyed exploring the French Quarter in New Orleans, hunting in the Texas Hill Country, and summers spent on False River and along the Gulf Coast. Perhaps his favorite pastime was dancing with "Sugaah" to the good "old" tunes of the 50s and 60s. Dodee adored his family and was fortunate to share a close-knit relationship with not only his children and grandchildren, but with his great-grandchildren as well.

Left to treasure his memory is his dedicated wife of 66 years, Carole Lloyd Tucker; his loving children, Tracie Tucker Garrett (Gregg), Torie Tucker, and Trent “Dobee” Tucker; his beloved grandchildren, Hunter Garrett, Sage Garrett Keller (Scott), Brennen Tucker, and Blaine Tucker; his precious great-grandchildren, Sylvie Keller and Leon Keller; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Dodee was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Trek Joseph Tucker; his brothers, Joseph Curwood Tucker, Joseph Hayden Tucker, and Joseph Vernon Tucker; his sisters, Lula Belle Tucker and Glen Tucker Painter; and his daughter-in-law, Stacey Murray Tucker (Trent).

Visitation will be at St Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 11:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Trent, Brennen and Blaine Tucker; Gregg and Hunter Garrett; and Scott Keller. Mackie Langlois and Jerry Lee Duplantis will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
