Joseph D. Henry, Jr. (J.D.), 73, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at his home in Gonzales. He was born on June 28, 1952, and lived on the same property in Gonzales for the entirety of his life.
J.D. retired from Turner Industries in 2023, where he worked as a heavy hauler. Throughout his life he raised beef cattle, and more recently, rodeo bulls. Known far and wide for his distinctive Carhart overalls, J.D. enjoyed a life of hunting, trapping, crawfishing, and shrimping. His primary enjoyment was spending time with his six grandsons, and “Paw Paw J.D.” was often an enthusiastic spectator at their sporting events and rodeos.
J.D. is survived by his former wife, Yvette (Murphy) Henry; his children, Becky (Eric) Kelley, Jason (Rebecca) Henry, and Jared “Tut” (Angel) Henry; and his six grandchildren, Jeffrey Kelley, Clyde Henry, Lawson Mansur, Travis Henry, Cade Mansur, and Kye Henry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. Sr. and Ida Mae Henry, and his sister, Sharon Henry.
J.D. will be memorialized with a celebration of his life in the coming days, with specific information becoming available through social media. In his memory, the family appreciates your prayers and donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
