Joseph Ernest Martinez Iii
Martinez III, Joseph Ernest, 89 years of age, passed on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Baton Rouge General Hospital.
Ernest was born on January 3, 1934, in Baton Rouge to the late Joseph Ernest Martinez Jr. and Thelma Bush Martinez. Ernest was the oldest of seven children. He was married and had two children, Deborah Lee and David Martinez and daughter-in-law Maris Martinez, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Ernest graduated from Catholic High School in 1952 and later the same year joined the U.S. Navy where he trained at the U. S. Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD. He received a rank of Aviation Boatwain’s First Mate Class “A” and served on the USS Bennington until August 1957.
Ernest worked in the automobile industry for most of his career before retiring from the auto insurance business. After retiring, he enjoyed working on projects around the house and managing his rental properties.
Ernest was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers Joseph Harold Martinez, and Henry Achille Martinez.
He leaves behind sisters, Thelma Rizan and Carolyn Sholar; brothers Robert Martinez and Nathan Martinez; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
