John Wayne Taylor, 72, passed away on January 26, 2026, in Prairieville, Louisiana. Born on November 26, 1953, in Gonzales, Louisiana, John lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his community and family.
John retired from ExxonMobil after a long and respected career in the GIS Department. His work left a lasting impression across both the Refinery and Chemical Plant divisions of the Baton Rouge Complex. In addition to his professional contributions, John served on the Fire Squad at the Baton Rouge Complex, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to safety and service.
Beyond his career at ExxonMobil, John was deeply involved in public service. He was an active member of the Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department where he played a vital role on both the Board of Directors and in day-to-day operations. His passion for mentoring led him to guide young people through the Junior Firefighter program-an effort that reflected his belief in nurturing future generations of first responders. John also served as a Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy, further demonstrating his unwavering dedication to protecting and supporting his community.
An avid outdoorsman, John cherished time spent at his camp in Grand Lake during hunting season. Whether in the woods or around a fire with friends and family, he found joy in nature and camaraderie. A devoted LSU Baseball fan, he rarely missed a game and proudly supported his team through every season.
John’s vibrant personality made him well known among those who crossed his path. Outgoing and social with a sharp sense of humor, he had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued. His generosity of spirit extended into every aspect of his life-from professional mentorship to personal friendships.
He is survived by his children: Tasha Taylor, Ryan and Aleia Burns Taylor, Layne and Tiffany Taylor Brignac; as well as his grandchildren, Kelsie and Brennan Burnthorne, Ethan Brignac, Logan Brignac, Ryan Joseph Taylor, RaeLynn Taylor, and Cameron Burns. He also leaves behind his siblings, Cheryl Ehlers, Robert Taylor Jr., Van and Debbie Taylor, Barry and Angela Taylor.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. And Bertha Lee Taylor; his brother, Don Taylor; and his beloved wife of 33 years, Nedra Norris Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 20, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at St. John the Evangelist Church Hall, 15208 Highway 73, with a private burial following at Serenity Oaks Memorial.
