John Kendrick, Jr.

John Kendrick, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep, with loved ones at his side on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born in Waco, Texas, to parents John D. Kendrick and Lillian Landry Kendrick.

He attended Mandeville High School and Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 17, John enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and was a Vietnam Veteran who was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. John had many passions in life, some of which include his fondness for all animals, specifically dogs, his love for the culture, food, people, and atmosphere of the city of New Orleans, being an avid reader, and a life-long devoted fan of the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. However, John’s true passion was his family and friends. He dedicated much of his life to his children and grandchildren, staying true to his commitment to always being a loving and compassionate father. John was always willing to help anyone in need and passed on his kindheartedness and graciousness to so many that loved him.

John is survived by his children, Erin Lynn Kendrick, Tyler ¨TJ¨ Kendrick and partner Shelby Bennett; eight grandchildren Blake Bankston, Landon Kendrick, Hailey Kendrick, Stefani McLain, Ethan McCarthy, twins, Owen and Bennett Furr, and Michael Parrozzo; two brothers and sisters in law, Tommy and Linda Kendrick, and Michael and Kim Kendrick; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Gurlee, his furry companion that could always be found by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Kendrick, sister Jamie L. Kendrick.

The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. John passed away while visiting a family member and although he was not there as a patient, he was given immediate and specialized treatment and care.

A memorial service with military honors has been arranged to honor John at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. The service will be held at 1:30 pm and close friends and family members are invited to attend.
