John Burke Huner was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on August 29, 1941, to the union of John and Edith Aline Burke Huner. He died September 15, 2025, in Baton Rouge.
John B. attended public schools in Baton Rouge. Upon graduation from Baton Rouge High School, he attended LSU where he received his BA and MA in the area of anthropology. He also attended Penn State University where he worked on his advanced degree studying mounds built by Native Americans in the Lonoke, Arkansas area.
John B. was predeceased by his parents John and Edith Huner and his companion of many years Ms. Judith Baker. Survivors include his daughter Jana (born Jan Marie) Sibson of Berkley, Michigan, granddaughter Rihannon Aline Sibson and grandson Reed Paul Sibson. Joyce, his former wife and mother of his daughter also survives John. Other survivors include his brothers Jay (Judith) Huner of Boyce, Louisiana and Burke (Cheryl) Huner of Lafayette, Louisiana.
For many years John B. was a member of the Baton Rouge Orchid Society.
