Joe S. Killian, a devoted husband, father, accomplished engineer, and beloved friend, passed away on July 21, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 67.

Born on September 15, 1958, Joe spent a lifetime dedicated to his family, his profession, and his community. Through his commitment to helping others and his personal pursuits, he has left a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Dana Killian, and two loving sons, Nicholas Killian and Adam Killian. The close bond Joe shared with his family was always evident, especially in the many fond memories they created together, whether enjoying a favorite meal or spending treasured hours on the golf course. Joe’s love for golf was one of his great joys, and some of his happiest moments were spent playing alongside his friends and sons.

An alumnus of Louisiana State University, Joe earned his bachelor's degree from LSU, where he also performed as a member of the renowned LSU Tiger Marching Band, playing the saxophone. His passion for music endured throughout his life, expressed through his participation in St. John's choir for many years and his earlier days as a proud member of his high school band.

Joe's distinguished career as a Senior Professional Engineer spanned four decades. His steadfast professionalism and technical brilliance led him to serve as a FEMA Inspector in times of disaster, collaborating with fellow professionals to assess and address damage in affected communities. Joe served his church community as an active participant on two of St. John’s Building Committees, lending his expertise to projects that benefited countless others.

Joe was perhaps best known for his deep commitment to helping people. Whether it was assisting children with math at school or employing his problem-solving skills to address complex structural issues, his generosity of spirit and sharp intellect left a significant impact on those he assisted. Colleagues and friends would describe Joe as witty and intelligent—traits he displayed not just in his professional achievements but also in his everyday interactions. He delighted those around him with his sense of humor, often quoting lines from ‘Big Bang Theory,’ especially those of his favorite character, Sheldon.

For Joe, life’s accomplishments included not just the successful completion of formidable engineering projects, but also the simpler pleasures: shared meals with loved ones, laughter with friends, and time spent on the green with those dearest to him.

Friends and family are invited to honor Joe’s memory at St John the Evangelist in Prairieville, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on July 23, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held in Prairieville Community Cemetery at a future date.

Joe S. Killian’s life was marked by intelligence, kindness, and a steadfast devotion to his community and family. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for the generosity, humor, and dedication with which he met every day.
