Joe S. Killian

Joe S. Killian, born on September 15, 1958, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, in Baton Rouge, LA. He leaves behind a distinguished legacy of professional achievement, deep passion for his interests, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

A native of Louisiana, Joe was a proud alumnus of Louisiana State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. His time at LSU was marked not just by academic success but also by his love for music, serving as a member of the renowned LSU Tiger Marching Band, where he skillfully played the saxophone. His musical journey began even earlier during his years in high school band and continued well into adulthood as a cherished member of the St. John’s choir for many years.

Professionally, Joe dedicated over four decades as a Senior P. E. Structural Engineer, a testament to his expertise, intelligence, and steadfast work ethic. He often answered the call as a FEMA Inspector, traveling to disaster-affected areas alongside other professionals to provide his valuable assessments and guidance. Joe also shared his talents and leadership with his community, serving on the St. John’s Building Committee on two occasions. His career was characterized by a commitment not just to the structures he designed or repaired, but to the people those structures would serve.

Joe was renowned for his wit and intelligence, qualities that shone brightly in every aspect of his life. He possessed a genuine liking for helping others—whether guiding students through math challenges or using his unique skills to solve complex structural problems. He enjoyed the opportunity to impart knowledge, offering assistance and encouragement to young learners and peers alike.

His hobbies and passions were central to his joy. Joe was a golf enthusiast who relished time on the course, especially when accompanied by friends and, most dearly, his two sons. He loved sharing a favorite meal surrounded by family and friends, moments that brought him great pride and happiness. Joe's playful side was evident in his fondness for the TV show "Big Bang Theory," where he delighted in quoting Sheldon, much to the amusement of those around him.

Above all, Joe’s greatest achievements were measured in the relationships he cultivated and the lives he touched. He is survived by his loving wife, Dana Killian; his sons, Nicholas Killian and Adam Killian; his sister, Janet Nelson; and his brothers, Jack Killian and John Killian. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Killian, his mother, Gloria Malone Killian, and his brother-in-law, Buzzy Nelson.

Those who knew Joe will remember him as a witty, intelligent, and generous soul; a man devoted to his family, loyal to his friends, and esteemed in his professional field.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, July 23, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St John the Evangelist, located at 15208 LA-73, Prairieville, LA 70769. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
