Jimmy Grubbs

Jimmy “Jim” Grubbs, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on November 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on February 9, 1943, Jim’s life was marked by adventure, resilience, and a deep love for family.

 Jim’s early years were spent in South America, where his parents lived and worked. At just eight years old, Jim was sent to a military boarding school, while his beloved sister, Barri, attended a traditional boarding school—experiences that shaped their discipline and determination. Later, Jim proudly served as a sergeant in South Korea, demonstrating his commitment and leadership.

 After his military service, Jim began a long and successful career with Chicago Bridge & Iron (CBI), working on major projects across South America. During the Dominican Republic revolution, Jim lived in the country to secure a critical project for CBI. It was there that he fell in love, married, and welcomed his first daughter, Gina. While in the Dominican Republic, Jim and his wife built a skateboard park—a project that became a beacon of hope and joy for local youth. Featured in a documentary, the park provided a safe space for recreation and community, touching the lives of countless young people and offering opportunities to those from indigent backgrounds. Jim’s vision and generosity created a lasting legacy of inclusion and empowerment in the community. During this time, Jim also welcomed Dania into his life, whom he considered like family, loving and guiding her as part of his circle.

 Jim eventually returned to the United States, continuing his work with CBI. He later married again and had a son, James. His journey brought him to Baton Rouge, where he married once more and welcomed his third child, Sarah. Together with his wife, Jim co-founded a Montessori school, reflecting his passion for education and child development. He also helped raise his daughter Celine, extending his love and guidance beyond his immediate family. 

Jim was a lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity. He researched extensively on topics that fascinated him and pursued many diverse hobbies. He was an avid photographer, underwater diver, exotic fish/aquarium expert and devoted cat lover, sharing a special bond with his feline companions. Known for his signature dimples, Jim was often compared to actor Robert Redford—a resemblance that never failed to draw smiles and compliments. His charisma and larger-than-life personality lit up every room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Jim’s life was rich with experiences that spanned continents and cultures. His legacy lives on in his children, family, and the countless lives he touched.

 He leaves behind: His daughters, Gina and Sarah; son, James; daughters he lovingly embraced as family, Dania and Celine; his sister, Barri Ferraro; niece, Crystal Ferraro; nephew, Clay Ferraro and his wife Kristen Ferraro; and his beloved Timothy the cat.

 A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date (TBD).
