In Loving Memory of Jimmy Beckham

Jimmy Beckham was the kind of man you couldn’t help but love. On August 13, at the age of 81, the music faded, the dance floor fell still, and the world lost one of its brightest lights.

If you knew Jimmy, you knew the sound of old country songs playing in the background and the sight of him tapping his boots, ready to dance. He especially loved dancing to live country music—the kind that made you sing along and maybe shed a tear—and he could turn any gathering into a party.

Jimmy’s life was built on friendship, laughter, hard work, and helping others. He was a skilled brick mason, proud of the work he did with his own two hands, and he approached every project with the same care and dedication he gave to the people in his life. He also enjoyed woodworking, creating beautiful pieces with the same passion he showed in every part of his life. He had the biggest heart, always quick to lend a hand, fix something that needed fixing, or show up just when you needed him most. He didn’t do things for recognition—he did them because it was simply who he was.

He especially loved kicking back with friends and neighbors, sharing a cold beer, swapping stories, and heading out to fish with his buddies. Whether enjoying the peace of the water or the company of good friends, those simple moments, filled with music, laughter, and good company, were what Jimmy cherished most.

Jimmy is survived by his two children, Brooks Beckham and Kim Franks; four grandchildren, Little Brooks, Ashlee and spouse Joel Velasquez, Justin, and Sophie; and two great-grandchildren, Coral and Jude. He also leaves behind his brother and lifelong buddy, AJ, and his sister, Joanne Imel. Jimmy now rests in peace, and we find comfort knowing he is reunited in heaven with the love of his life, his dear wife, Betty Lou, his parents, and siblings.

He loved people, and people loved him right back. Whether it was a night of music, a seat on the porch with a drink in hand, or a fishing line in the water, Jimmy had a way of making you feel like you mattered. His generosity, skill, and warmth left an imprint on everyone he met.

Jimmy will be deeply missed by his family, countless friends, and all who had the privilege of calling him their own. Though the dance floor feels emptier now, we’ll carry his spirit with us—in the songs we sing, the kindness we show, and the love we share.
