Jerry Ward Gabel, affectionately known as "Yankee" and "Pappy," passed away on April 16, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 27, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jerry was the beloved son of Lee and Ruth Gabel.

Jerry proudly served his country in the Airforce as an Airman Second Class in the 28th Air Division stationed in Germany. His service was honored with the Good Conduct medal and the Airforce Longevity Service Award.

Throughout his professional life, Jerry excelled as a carpenter, specializing in trim and cabinet work. His craftsmanship earned him the honor of building sets for the action scenes in the movie Speed 2. Beyond his professional pursuits, Jerry volunteered his time and skills to the construction of Pine Grove Church, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. Jerry's passions were as varied as they were vibrant. From the adrenaline rush of drag racing and street racing to his love for muscle cars, he lived life in the fast lane. Yet, he found tranquility spending time on the water, indulging in his favorite pastime of fishing.

In 1979, Jerry married the love of his life, Jean (Shirley) Gabel, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife Jean, his children Lance Gabel and wife Darla, and Elen Gabel Mundheim, as well as his children through marriage Danny Holden, Tammy Chutz and husband Fellman, Cheryl Gautreau and husband Alon, Jerry Lee Holden and wife Lisa, Chandra Gabel Blake and husband Richard, Reece Holden and wife Tasha, Pamela Gabel Vicars, and Heather Holden. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Bryce, Bandon, and Blake Gabel; Miranda Wilson; Jager Mundheim; Amber Puma; Fellman III (Tre’s) Chutz; Scott and LaVon Thigpen; Jerry Reed and Justin Holden; Kimberly Spears; Kristy Alcorte; Casey, Randee, and Korey Melancon; Jody and Brittany Vicars; Elizabeth Patterson; Chandler Lessard, as well as his brother Greg Gabel and wife Cathy.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Ruth Gabel, his brother Larry Gabel, his sister Penny Gabel McDaniel, and his children through marriage, Sylvia (aka Sam) Gabel and Donald Holden.

A celebration to honor Jerry’s life with be held at a later date.

May he rest in peace, forever remembered and cherished.
