Jean Marie Patty Melanson of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on February 2, 2023, at the age of 70 after a lengthy battle with kidney disease.
Jean was born in Oxford, Mississippi on November 22, 1952, to parents William Sr. & Sondra Smith Patty. After living in many states due to her father’s work, they settled in Baton Rouge in 1966. Jean graduated from Lee High School in 1970 and attended college at LSU. She then went to work for the State of Louisiana in the Department of Health and Hospitals, where she retired after 42 years of service.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Frances Marie Melanson; son in law Michael Dicharry; three grandchildren, Macklyn Melanson, Zadie Dicharry, and Gunner Dicharry. Her companion, Michael Patterson. Her brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) Patty, Jr. and wife Paula Trabeaux Patty. Nieces and nephews William (Billy) Patty III (Joelle); Brandon Patty (Alycia); Devyn Michelli (Vic); and Lauren LeBlanc (Jarrod). Great nieces and nephews Will and Rynn Patty, Georgia Patty, Mason Prima, and Carter, Cole, and Cam LeBlanc.
She is preceded in death by her parents William Sr. and Sondra (Soni) Patty; grandparents Stanley and Grace Smith; Giles and Minnie Belle Patty.
Jean loved spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She had a home in Destin where she loved to visit and spend time with friends there. She enjoyed doing puzzles and reading. She had many friends at the American Legion Hall and the Elks in Destin where she spent a lot of time.
Jean didn’t let the kidney disease keep her down. She kept her great spirit as long as she could, and even performed her dialysis at home for the past 4 ½ years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation in her name.
A celebration of life will be held to honor Jean on March 4, 2023, from 12:00-3:00. It will be held at The Venue II, 13475 Hwy. 431, St. Amant, LA 70774. We will hold a celebration of life for her Destin friends and family at a later date.
