James "Bit" Rutherford

James “Bit” Rutherford Jr. age 71 years old, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday November 19, 2025. A proud father to Carissa Mitchell (Sammie) and Heather Catalanotto (Vincent). He adored his grandchildren, including Dylan (Baily), Sage, Brody, Lundie, Lucca and Vincent III as well as two great-grandchildren. Survived by his brothers, Ralph Rutherford (Liz) and Jonathan Rutherford (Crystal). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Rutherford; mother, Mae C. Rutherford; father, James P. Rutherford Sr.; brother, William “Billy” Rutherford, and son, Robbie Rutherford. Bit was born with a natural talent for athletics and a passion for competition. He grew up loving sports, especially baseball. He shined both on and off the field. He was a proud father and grandfather, and nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren chase their dreams. Known for his unforgettable smile and easily cool confidence. Friends, neighbors and even strangers quickly felt drawn to his warmth, charm, and ability to make every person feel seen and valued. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a community who will long remember the impact he made. Visitation will be on Thursday December 4, 2025, at 11 am located at Celebration Church Kenner campus 3550 Williams Blvd., Kenner, La 70065 followed by a service to celebrate his life at 12 pm. --
