James Ray Hoover, 69, of Baton Rouge, LA, was called home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2025. Born on January 5, 1956, in Baton Rouge, he was known for his kind heart, steadfast faith, and deep love for family and friends.
James was a man whose life was defined by faith, love, and service. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Verna Lee Gautreau and Emery Joseph Fontenot, as well as his brother, Larry Joseph Robillard. He is survived by his devoted sisters, Connie LeBlanc, Debbie Lambert, Ledia Fontenot, and Darlene Hoffman; his brothers, Vernal Fontenot, Kenneth Fontenot, and Ricky Fontenot; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great-nephew, all of whom he loved dearly.
James had a heart overflowing with love for his family and his church family. He found his greatest joy in serving God and others, living out his faith daily with humility, kindness, and compassion. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, his steadfast devotion to the Lord, and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of James’s life will be held on October 4,2025 at Lanier Baptist Church, 4851 Lanier Dr, Baton Rouge, LA 70812. Services will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall where family and friends can gather to share memories and honor his life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his church family and friends for the love, prayers, and support they have shared during this difficult time.
