James “J.L.” Lenard Dodson Sr., 81 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, and friend was called to be with our Heavenly Father on March 16, 2024. He was born on April 30, 1942, to Albertha “Bertha” Phillips Dodson Cox and Lenard “Buster” Dodson. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy (1959-1963). He was a wonderful man and a friend to many, but his family was his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and his legacy will live on in all that loved him. “PawPaw River” was a mentor and hero to his grand/great-grandchildren. J.L. never met a stranger and enjoyed fishing, target practice and adventures with his family. He bravely fought his battle with cancer and made every day count after his diagnosis. He was fiercely loved and will be greatly missed. His devotion and love for his country was the driving force behind his desire for a Military burial at sea.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Stuckey and husband Huey, and his son, James “Jimmy” Dodson Jr. and Mary; grandchildren: Jason Stuckey and wife Courtney, Tiffany Hussein, Shontelle Stuckey; Great-grandchildren: Allison Stuckey, Brycen Hussein, Averlynn Hussein, Sami Hussein, Ainsley Poche’, Alex Clements, and Austin Clements; Great-great grandchildren: Jasmine, Joy, Charlee, Talon and Alla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Rita Brookshire Dodson, of 57 years, his grandson, Damen James Dodson, father Lenard “Buster” Dodson, mother Albertha “Bertha” Dodson Cox, stepfather Clifford C. Cox, brother Raymond “Red” Dodson, half-brothers Tommy Dodson, Jerry Dodson, and half-sister Myrna Dodson.
