James Garland "Jimmy" Cambre, Sr.

James "Jimmy" Garland Cambre passed away on April 17, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 75, after a brief and brave battle with ALS. Jimmy left this world surrounded by his family and friends who loved him dearly.

 

Jimmy was born on September 6, 1948, in Baton Rouge to Vincent and Juanita Cambre. He grew up in Baker and attended Redemptorist High School. He spent much of his time hunting deer and turkey at Sturdivant Hunting Club in Crosby, MS. He was an avid fan of LSU football and baseball. Jimmy was known for his love of the outdoors, his knack for growing tomatoes, and his enthusiasm for playing croquet with his signature hidden mallet. Jimmy was very active with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jimmy was a true master of many skills and could often be found outside in his garden or tinkering in his shed. His family and friends will remember him as the "Jimmy of All Trades."

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Lee Cambre; son, James "Jay” Cambre and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Cambre; daughter, Jill Kline, and son-in-law, Ted Kline; grandchildren Macy Cambre, Amanda and Charlie Bourgeois, Blake Cambre, Abby and Daniel Tanner, Evan Cupit, Madison Kline, Hannah Kline, Malancy Fitch, Kirk Perry, and great-grandchildren Aleiah, Hallie, Isabella, Amelia, and Avery. He is also survived by his sister, Jaunita McDonald, and brother-in-law, Leland; brothers Vincent "Butch" Cambre, Paul Cambre, and sister-in-law Mary; Eddie Cambre, and sister-in-law Judy. 

 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Jaunita Cambre; father, Vincent T. Cambre Sr; and sister, Margaret Ann Cambre.

 

A devoted member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Jimmy found solace and community in his faith. He prayed the rosary every night. 

 

Jimmy was a true American patriot and loved his country fiercely. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a member of the 101st Airborne in the US Army from 1969-1972.

 

Visitation will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Baker, Wednesday, April 24th, beginning at 9 a.m., with Rosary service at 10 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Prairieville Community Cemetery behind St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville.

 

Pallbearers will be Blake Cambre, Evan Cupit, Charles Bourgeois, Daniel Tanner, Paul Cambre, and Kirk Perry.

 

The legacy of Jimmy Cambre will live on through the memories shared by his family and friends.
