In Loving Memory Elton Chatelain

Elton Daniel Chatelain, 85, passed away on June 14, 2018 at his home. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana on December 6, 1932, he graduated from Buckeye High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the 4054th Antiaircraft Artillery Battery, out of Fort Bliss, Texas; he earned a National Defense Service medal. When his service ended, he attended and graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts, pursued a career, and retired as a state supervisor with the State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in Vocational Rehabilitation.

Residing in Denham Springs for nearly forty-five years, Elton was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was lifetime member of the Airstream Wally Byam Caravan Club, International; and a local member of the Acadian Airstream Unit. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and collecting Airstream campers and Boston Whaler boats.

He is survived by his children, Cindy Chatelain Thomas, her husband Kyle and their children Kimberly and Austin; Cheri Chatelain Fry, her husband Chris and their children Margot and Cecile Fry; and Craig Chatelain, his wife Lolita and their children Conner and Catherine.

Elton was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Fremin Chatelain; his parents Edward and Elizabeth Deville Chatelain; his siblings Ethan, Adam, Able, Edward, Ray, Emrick, Euna Chatelain Scroggs, Audrey Chatelain Vandersypen, Dorothy Chatelain Vanlangendonck, and Maxine Chatelain Sheffield; and his granddaughter Camille Anise Fry.

Services were at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, Fr. Frank Uter officiated the Funeral Mass Interment followed at Evergreen Memorial Park in Denham Springs. Pallbearers are Austin Thomas, Conner Chatelain, Seth Mosley, Jack Sheffield, David Chatelain and Kyle Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Threads of Love Sewing Ministry at Immaculate Conception Church, 865 Hatchell Lane, Denham Springs, Louisiana, 70726.
