Ida Gertrude Lake Hutchinson “Doo Baby” was born in Chamberlin, Louisiana on February 26,1937. She passed away peacefully on January 4,2026 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Aunt. 

She loved her family deeply. Her special family gatherings, with her home cooked meals, were something that everyone looked forward to. Mrs. Gertrude was a talented seamstress and did a lot of sewing for her community for many years. As a faithful servant of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she was a large part of her church family. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Plaze H Lake and Sarah Gertrude Scott Lake, her first husband, Clifford Avara and her second husband William Hutchinson, her brother, Plaze Lake Jr., 3 sisters Daisy Nolen, Rita Ballard and Hazel Avara, a daughter, Wanda Avara McLin, 2 Grandsons, Byron Jones and Jonathan Cook. 

She is survived by 3 of her children, Randy Avara (Kay), Melissa Jones (John) and Karen Avara Calamia,1 brother, Larry Lake (Judy),2 sisters, Peggy Misner and Margie Burns,as well as numerous grandchildren,great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at Salem Baptist Church, where she was a member, with a graveside service at Salem Cemetery to follow. Please feel free to dress casual as that is what she would have wanted.
