Howard Eugene Myers, lovingly known as Gene, passed away June 17, 2025. Gene was born February 7, 1933 to Jessie B. Myers and Gladys Renois Myers in Pelican, Louisiana. He attended Pelican School. He joined the Navy during the Korean Conflict and served four years aboard the USS Philippine Sea (a Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier). After four years in the military service, Gene returned home and work for Hendricks Manufacturing in Mansfield, Louisiana where he led the shipping department. He retired when the company sold and he then continued his working life at General Motors, Shreveport, La.
Gene found great joy in the outdoors. He loved bass fishing on Toledo Bend Lake and participating in fishing rodeos. He enjoyed following horse racing, a lifelong interest that brought him many hours of excitement.
Cremation has been entrusted to Church Funeral Services and Crematory. Gene’s ashes will be laid to rest at a date and place to be determined.
His life was marked by both joy and tragedy, by service and struggle, by deep flaws and enduring humanity. He will be remembered by those that knew the whole of his heart with love and compassion.
