Henry Joseph Yennie, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, departed from this life to eternity on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Butterfly Wing, Baton Rouge General in Baton Rouge, LA, at the age of 73 after a nearly three-year painful battle with pancreatic cancer. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Ochsner Cancer Center, Ochsner Medical Center, The Hospice of Baton Rouge and the many caregivers who were an integral part of his treatments and supportive care.

Henry was born on October 12, 1952, in Bunkie, Louisiana to Henry Joseph Yennie, Sr. and Rosa Lemoine Yennie. He moved with his family shortly afterward to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he attended McNeese University and earned a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

Henry retired from the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of the Secretary Management and Finance, Emergency Support Function, where he served the state of Louisiana for nearly 20 years after a long career in behavioral healthcare and information technology. Henry and his wife Cheryl met while they both worked at Baton Rouge General Medical Center and its affiliates in 1991. They celebrated their 24th anniversary September 29, 2025. Their Baton Rouge life was spent among their friends at The Chapel Baton Rouge as members. Henry served as a volunteer sound engineer, always the first one to arrive and the last one to leave on Sunday mornings and evenings. He was a mentor to young men in The Refuge, the Chapel’s college ministry. Henry could be found with his laptop at his favorite coffee shops to meet work colleagues, family and friends. A loving husband, father, brother and friend to all, he will always be remembered for his warmth, kindness and fun humor.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Flitter Yennie; stepson Andrew Joseph Matusicky; brother Michael James Yennie (Pat); brothers-in-law Douglas Alan Flitter (Renee) and Gregory Paul Flitter, Sr.; sister in-law Pamela Flitter Deville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Susette Ann Yennie, his father-in-law Charles William Flitter and mother-in-law Noreen Zeman Flitter.

The memorial service and Celebration of Life for family and friends will be on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at The Chapel Baton Rouge, 3355 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70802 with visitation from 9-11am and a reception to follow the service.
