Harry Loraine Henslee

Harry “Lorrie” Loraine Henslee, Jr. died on October 10, 2025, after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. It is a cruel disease that damaged both his body and his mind, but he was incredibly well cared for by hospice workers and the staff at Jefferson Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge.

He is survived by his sons Marshall (Anne) and William (Shelley), four grandchildren (Eli, Julia, Ella and Harrison), his brother Paul, and Jane, his former wife of thirty-three years who remained a dear friend. He is also survived by a close and extended family, whom he loved dearly.

Lorrie was born on March 25, 1941, and grew up in Franklin, Louisiana. His childhood was filled with fishing, basketball, baseball and golf, often with the numerous cousins, aunts and uncles who lived nearby. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1959 and then from Louisiana State University in 1967 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He was employed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development but also had a successful private practice. He was respected in the field and created landscape plans for countless residences, commercial buildings, state parks, large malls and many other projects across the country. He was also instrumental in the founding of Baton Rouge Green, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving green spaces in Baton Rouge.

Lorrie always enjoyed the outdoors, playing sports and fishing until late in his life. Pursuant to his wishes, his ashes will be released in a private ceremony in the Gulf of Mexico and the mountains of Montana. In honor of his memory, the family asks that everyone appreciate each moment, be kind to one another and listen to good music.
